John Batter COO Dreamworks Animation John Batter has served as DreamWorks Animations Head of Studio Operation since January 2006. He is a member of companys executive committee and responsible for DreamWorks Animations world-wide production, post-production, technology and studio finance/operations activities. John is also responsible for developing opportunities that extend DreamWorks Animations core business. Johns first experience with DreamWorks was in 1995 as CFO and part of the start-up management team for DreamWorks Interactive, a joint venture between DreamWorks and Microsoft. Following that, John was the CFO for PDI/DreamWorks from 1997 to 2000. He left PDI/DreamWorks in 2000 to become General Manager of Electronic Arts (EA) Redwood Shores where he had full P&L responsibility for a studio with $350M in annual revenue. John is credited with leading the turnaround of the studio and reversing a multi-year decline in financial performance by streamlining the studios product mix and building organizational competency in categories with the highest potential returns. He was involved in the development of several global blockbusters, including James Bond, Lord of The Rings, Knockout Kings, Freekstyle and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR. John was soon promoted to the position of Group Studio General Manager where he had full P&L responsibility for multiple studio units that developed a portfolio of entertainment software products, generated approximately $500M in annual revenue and employed 550 individuals. John created and executed the vision for rapidly transforming EA, Los Angeles into one of EAs premier studios, including integrating three stand-alone studios into one operation/location and growing the organization from less than 100 individuals to 400 individuals. Johns responsibilities included production and development for the Medal of Honor, Command & Conquer, Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye series. Prior to leaving EA to return to DreamWorks Animation, John was General Manager of EA Mobile, where he spearheaded EAs entrance into the mobile games business a key global initiative for the companys growth. John was responsible for all aspects of EAs global wireless games business, including domestic and international sales & marketing and product development on three continents. John also initiated the acquisition of mobile games publisher Jamdat, the largest single acquisition in the history of the games business. Previous to DreamWorks and Electronic Arts, John was CFO for Xatrix Entertainment, and before that he held a variety of management positions in business development and planning with the Times Mirror Company. He began his career with Kaypro Computer Corporation serving in a variety of positions, including Director of Strategic Planning and General Manager of Kaypro Europe. John earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also sat on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Regional Technology Alliance (LARFTA). |
